Yesterday, we played a fantastic old-school style game of BINGO! Students earned this celebration by earning Marky Moose Marks throughout the school day for the past few weeks. They voted on a class game as their coveted celebration. They earned double Marks the week before vacation working on one minute transitions. This really helped to fill the tank! Here is some excitement from our celebration:
Today in Room 12, students made 3-D snowflakes for the upcoming music performances. These will be used to decorate the gym by our wonderful PTO. We really enjoyed taking a break from our normal, busy schedule to make these together!
Room 12 students earned their second Marky Moose Mark celebration this week! They worked very diligently at being respectful, mindful, and cooperative to fill our classroom container. We voted to celebrate with a classroom game outside called "Infected". It is a version of tag. We had a lot of fun, and afterwards we had some more fun in the leaves!
On Wednesday 10/25, students had the opportunity to learn about arachnids through Hands-On-Nature. Two parents from Room 12 came in to teach students about many different spiders. They brought in LIVE ones to do this investigation with! It was a fun, exciting learning experience! And then, Room 12 students got to free the spiders... this was the most exciting (and a little bit scary) part!
To conclude our pneumatics mini-unit, we had a competition to lift up Ms. Couillard's cup to the highest height! Matthew was the winner at 63 centimeters! Here is a picture of the winner with his supportive class... And a few silly ones...
This week we took some time to explore a tool we will use often in math. These Omnifix cubes help us learn about volume. During regular math class, they will only be used to build rectangular prisms, but while we had the time we wanted to do a little playing!
Welcome new fifth grade students and families! I am so excited for this school year to start. Please check back to this blog post frequently for updates in our classroom. I love to share many of the fun-filled activities your students are participating in. I am looking forward to a fantastic year together!
Students picked an ancestor to research with the guidance of Natalie Kinsey-Warnock. Here are some snapshots of the museum walk today!
Today students completed their D.A.R.E. curriculum with Officer Kevin! They celebrated with a graduation ceremony and reception. Students received a certificate of completion from the program, and one student's D.A.R.E. essay stood out above the rest! Congratulations to all of the fifth graders, and a special congratulations to Jackson, on their accomplishment!
